Mount Fanjing, in Chinese, “Fanjing Shan,” is in southwest China. Mount Fanging, more than 8200 feet high, was named a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2018. Apart from being a natural wonder, the area also has several Buddhist temples.

In Buddhism, Mount Fanjing is a holy place, and its name means “Pure Land of Brahma”. Its highest point is what you call the “Red Cloud Gold Summit.” This mind-blowing place sits at the top of two temples and has a narrow stone bridge that connects them.

Traveling to Fangjing Mountain is not easy. There is a bus daily running to the mountain, passing 12 miles from Tonghran, and the ride takes about 90 minutes. Limited accommodation is available in the area. However, its relatively isolated location means that it is home to various flora and fauna, including the rare Guizhou Golden Monkey and the Chinese giant salamander. There are over 2000 species of plants and trees in this area, many of which are unique to this place

However, this isolation can be a blessing to the modern traveler. Although Fanjing Mountain is a popular tourist destination, it is not a crowded place at all. Travelers can reach the top of the mountain by foot, and many pilgrims and visitors do so.

Travelers with a faint mind should be careful, as climbing can be difficult for them. There are parking lots along the way, as well as some refreshing cabins. According to legend, there are 8888 steps to the top. So, if you can make it to the peak, the views are spectacular. Travelers who do not prefer challenging trails can reach a nearby open space called the “Mushroom Hill” by a cable car. 

Mount Fanging is a beautiful, quiet, and unique ecosystem that can bring a refreshing and spiritual change to those who lead busy lives in big cities.
